Taking its title from Art Mobilier, the portable art of prehistory, Mobiliary examines how contemporary sculpture both reflects and is shaped by shared systemic forces, such as social, economic, material, and environmental. Just as the small, moveable sculptures attributed to the Upper Palaeolithic period are indicative of their nomadic lifestyle, a cognitive shift and a cultural explosion, so too are sculptural practices today symptomatic of the societal structures and conditions that surround us. Included in this exhibition are 18 artists, at varying stages of their careers, whose work is reflective of the breadth and depth, as well as the resourcefulness and resilience of contemporary sculpture.
