Timo Kube
Lives and works in London, UK
b. 1977
Timo Kube critically examines the conditions of human perception and the formation of knowledge as the most direct instruments for encountering and constituting a world in which he seeks to locate himself. The experience of physical action, process, and change forms an important aspect of his artistic practice. This may arise through the prolonged labour of artistic creation or in the observation of an artwork’s continuously shifting appearance. A nuanced sensitivity to subtle differences between phenomena is central to his attention.
Kube focuses on how surfaces appear, exploring their potential to merge what is physically present with what is perceived or imagined. A variety of natural and industrial materials are used, such as water, clay, silk fabric, mirrors, polyurethane foam, and polyester film. Through close observation, determination, and analysis, their specific aesthetic properties are examined, alongside the broader context, history, and meaning of each substance.
Kube studied Fine Art at the University of Fine Arts Münster, where he was a master class student of Ulrich Erben, as well as at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and Chelsea College of Arts in London. He is represented by Galerie Gisela Clement in Bonn, Germany, and Chauffeur in Sydney, Australia.
