Will Vetch examines painting, drawing and collage making as a non-verbal expression. He is interested in how communication through these practices can be achieved via the representation of the action itself. In a current series of paintings and drawings Vetch looks at the studio practice, both in the action of painting as well as its precursing tasks. Drawings from life expand into imagined spaces, inanimate objects bloat like fingers and begin tapping at the surface. Paintbrushes dance across the canvas, hammers and screws converse, abstracted surfaces become wide open mouths. The paintings explore all facets of the artist’s daily choreography including standing, sitting, thinking, doing.
Vetch interrogates these mediums to their end, employing various different sources of inspiration; horror magazines, cinema, poetry, art history. His practice is open ended, preferring to find outcomes through a process led way of making rather than through a set of clear ideas.
